Tip #196 - How To Set The “Case Name Generation” Option To Show Indicator For Incompetent, Deceased Or Minor Plaintiffs
The Case Name (or ‘Style’) is shown in the upper left corner of the Summary Screen of the case.
The Case Name is automatically generated based on preferences set in System Parameters. Some popular styles include:
Plaintiff’s Last Name -v- Defendant’s Last Name
Plaintiff’s First and Last Name -v- Defendant’s First and Last Name
Plaintiff’s Last Name, Plaintiff’s First Name -v- Defendant’s Last Name, Defendant’s First Name
Plaintiff’s First and Last Names, etc.
The names used are taken directly from the names of the parties (plaintiff and defendant) and will include only the primary plaintiff and primary defendant.[1]
To set the Case Name Style, go to Admin > System Parameters and filter for ‘Case’ in the Group Description column and ‘Case Name Format’ in Parameter Description.
Important: You will need to configure the indicators (Incompetent, Deceased, Minor) in Picklist Maintenance (these are the indicators that will show on the contact card for the individual and displayed next to the plaintiff’s name on the case style as discussed above).
To set the indicators: Go to Admin > Picklist Maintenance and filter for (or locate) the Contact SubCategory. Create the additional sub-categories if needed and set the appropriate ‘PLI’ flag. The PLI flag is the designation that will be displayed to the right of the plaintiff’s name in the Case Title or Case Style (i.e., Incompetent, Deceased, Minor, etc.).
[1] If the ‘Allow editing of case name’ option is set to ‘True’ in System Parameters and the ‘Auto Update’ box is unchecked on the Edit Case page, you can also manually edit the case name or case style.
