Tip #201 - How to Associate Documents with a Specific Negotiation

We have been expanding the “Document Association” feature in SmartAdvocate to make that function available in many screens where appropriate (e.g., the Case Expenses Screen, The Litigation Screens, the Retainer/Referral Screen, etc.). The feature allows the quick association of a document with the data being entered on the screen. This week, we will take a closer look as it applies to the Negotiation/Settlement Screen.

In the screenshot above, an initial demand was made on June 1, 2022. The demand information (i.e., demand amount, negotiating with, etc.) is entered on the Negotiation/Settlement Page. The demand letter itself (or the “demand pack”) would have been saved as a document in the Documents Page of the case. To associate the document (from the Documents Page) with the demand information entered on the Negotiation/Settlement Page, you would “right-click” on the demand and then choose “Select Document”. You will be taken to the Documents Page to choose the appropriate document (i.e., Demand Letter, etc.) to associate with the entry.

Once you have completed the association, the document will be listed on the Negotiation/Settlement Page with a hyperlink that can be used to open the document from that page.

Note: If the Documents column is not visible on your Negotiation/Settlement Page, you can use the “Layout” option (Layout tab visible in the bottom right corner on the screen) to drag that column to the grid.
