Tip #234 - How to Filter Case Browse Results using Date Ranges
There are several “standard” date range (or day) filters available in Case Browse that you can use/designate before running your search (Case Open Date, Closed, Wanted, Retained, Settled). Occasionally, you may want to filter using other date ranges, such as those included in a Case Browse result (e.g., clients’ birthday that falls within a certain date range, retainer signed date, etc.).
Let’s say you want a list of cases where the plaintiff’s birthday falls within a certain date range or a list of cases where the incident date falls within a certain date range.
Here’s how: Go to Case Browse, then select the columns you want to include in your results.

In addition to any other column(s) you want in your report, make sure you include the column that you will ultimately want to filter for date ranges. In our example, we will include the plaintiff’s date of birth (please note that the column for Date of Birth is “Plaintiff DOB”) and Incident Date.

Your Case Browse Results (“Report”) may look something like this:

Now, let’s say we only want to include those plaintiffs whose birthday falls between January 1, 1962 and January 1, 1982.
If you look in the bottom left corner of the report, you will see a blue tab labeled “Create Filter”. Click the Create Filter hyperlink. The filter builder dialog box will open.
Click the little "+" sign next to the word "And" to add a new condition. You will need to select each part of the condition in order to change the information that is being sorted. Click the “Case Name” tab, or whatever tab/column name is on your list.
You will see a drop down with the list of columns included in your report. Select the column you want to further filter. In our example we will select “Plaintiff DOB”.
“Equals” is probably the default value that is selected. We will need to change it so that our filter will use the “between” values (we want DOBs between a certain date range – between 1/1/1962 and 1/1/1982 in our example).
Click the “Equals” tab. A list of available values will be displayed. For our example, we want to choose the “Is between” option for the conditions.
Click the first <enter a value> field and enter the beginning date (01/01/1962), then click the second <enter a value> field and enter the ending date (01/01/1982).
Your Case Browse results will now be filtered to show the updated results as appropriate.
