Tip #287 - How To Configure Required Fields and Visible Panels in Intake Wizard (formerly Case Wizard)

Some select fields in SmartAdvocate’s Intake Wizard feature can be made mandatory or optional. They include: Case Sub-Type, Incident Date, Incident State, Injury, and Referral Source. In addition, the following panels can be set as visible or not: Defendant, Employment, Insurance, Medical Providers, and Vehicles. Further, the previously mentioned items can be configured to be set as mandatory, or visible, based on the Case Group and/or Case Type. So, an item can be set as mandatory for one Case Group but optional for another. Similarly, the panels can be configured to be visible or hidden, depending on the Case Group or Case Type.

Both configurations are done in Picklist Maintenance and can be configured independently of each other.

Here’s How:

Go to Admin > Picklist Maintenance and filter for Case Wizard configuration. Your initial Case Wizard Configuration Page may look like this:

In the example above, Case Sub-Type, Incident State, Injury and Referral Source are all flagged as required fields. The Defendant Panel will be visible. You can edit these options, i.e., modify which fields are required and/or modify the visible panels. These settings will apply to all matter types across the board.

You can also create additional Case Wizard Configurations so that the required fields and visible panels can be Case Group and/or Case Type specific.

Here’s How:

  1. Go to Admin > Picklist Maintenance

  2. Filter for Case Wizard Configuration

  3. Click the “Add New Item” button and select the desired options

Let’s say, for example, you do not need to have the Vehicles Panel visible for Worker’s Compensation Cases. You can create a new Intake Wizard configuration to do just that. Here is an example of how you could configure those settings:

The Workers Compensation Case Group is selected, no Case Type(s) are specified (so the configuration will apply to all Workers Compensation cases), Incident Date, Incident State, Injury and Referral Source are required fields and the Defendant, Employment and Medical Provider Panels are visible. Here is what the Intake Screen would like with these configurations:

Defendant Panel is visible.

Medical Providers and Insurance Panels are visible and Incident State and Incident Date are required.

Here is an example of the Auto Accident Case Group configured to have the Defendants Panel, Medical Providers, Insurance, Vehicles and Employment Panels visible.

The data entered in these panels at intake (Defendants, Medical Providers, Insurance, Vehicles and Employment) will be automatically seen on their respective pages in the case.
