Tip #81 - How to Enter Discovery Information
Tip #81 - How to Enter Discovery Information
Enter your Discovery information (Disclosures, Demand for Discovery, etc.) on the Litigation Page.
To enter Discovery information, navigate to the Litigation section from the Summary Screen of the case and click the Discovery tab. Click the “Add Discovery” button in the top left corner of the screen. You will need to check the radio button for either “Demand” or “Order” as appropriate. Date, Type and Method of Service are mandatory. The response to a Discovery Demand is typically due either on a specific date, on or before a date certain or within a certain number of days. That date would be the deadline for the response to the discovery demand and will auto-populate in the field “Date to Comply”. The check box for “Critical Deadline?” is checked by default. If you want the “Date To Comply” (critical deadline) added as a calendar appointment, click the “Appointment” button and you will be taken to Calendar Detail to add the appointment.
The party requesting the discovery would generally be designated as “Served By” and the other side designated as the “Respondent”.
Please note that although there is a provision for the entry of “Discovery” on the Critical Deadlines page, it is suggested that the entry of discovery information be initiated on the Discovery Page under the Litigation section as described above. The discovery information that you can enter on the Critical Deadlines page is limited. The discovery entry is made there when you know that there is a discovery deadline (and you want to enter/create that deadline right away), but may not have all the pertinent information readily available to enter the details of the discovery demand. Incidentally, discovery deadlines created on the Discovery page is automatically saved to the Critical Deadlines Page as well.
The date complied or satisfied (for the discovery demand) is not entered directly on the main grid of the Discovery page. To enter date complied, you need to click the plus (‘+’) sign to the left of the party’s name which will display a subsequent page labeled “Respondent” (i.e., the party required to respond to the discovery demand). Edit this page to enter complied information, etc.
The saved information (date complied) will be listed on the main discovery page under the “Respondent” column.
