Tip #64 - Modify your browser settings to quickly attach downloaded documents to SmartAdvocate®

In Tip #62 (“Additional Tips on Settings to Make SmartAdvocate Run Faster and More Efficient”) we discussed some settings that you can make to improve the performance of SmartAdvocate. Additionally, there are a few changes that you can make to your browser settings in Chrome that will allow you to quickly attach downloaded PDF documents to your cases.  The settings we will discuss below will allow you to have the document downloaded directly to your task bar and then you can use the ‘drag and drop’ feature to add the document to a case. With these settings enabled, you can save several steps in the process.

First, you will need to set the default for downloaded PDF files to “download instead of automatically opening.” To do so, click on the Menu icon in Chrome (three vertical dots – ‘burger’ - in the top right corner of your screen) and then select “Settings” from the drop-down menu.

Next, filter for ‘pdf’ on the Settings menu then click on the pdf settings highlighted for ‘Site Settings – Control what information websites can use and what content they can show you’.

Scroll down the list until you see PDF documents (PDF will be highlighted) then click on that item.

On the resulting menu make sure ‘Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome’ is selected. (It should be blue. If it isn’t, click on it to select it – see screen shot below).

Next, click the little back arrow next to the words ‘PDF documents’ shown at the top of the page and then filter for the word ‘certain’. (If you get the message “No search results found” it means your settings are already cleared). If you see the options displayed in the screen shot below, click the ‘Clear’ button to clear out the settings. Your settings are now complete and you can exit from the Browser Settings menu.

Now pdf documents that are downloaded will automatically be saved to your task bar. You can then drag and drop the document directly from the task bar to the case in SmartAdvocate. This will save you several steps in attaching downloaded pdf documents to your cases.
