Tip #285 - The Values Page: What Is It, And How To Use It

The “Values” Page (or Case Value) is one of the few pages in SmartAdvocate where data is not directly entered. Instead, data (values) are pushed from several other pages and viewed on that page. Data is pushed from the Lien Tracking, Medical Providers, Special Damages and Disbursements (Case Expenses) pages.

The default name for the page is “Case Value.” An example is shown in the screenshot above. The label “Case Value” may be somewhat of a contradiction, as the page does not display the actual value of the case. As mentioned above, the data include Liens, Outstanding Medical Bills, Special Damages and Cases Expenses (Disbursements), but does not include items such as attorney’s fees, referral fees, co-counsel fees and the like. As such, some firms will rename the page to be more reflective of the data that is displayed there. Below is an example where the page is labeled “Special Damages and Case Costs.”

Regardless of the label your firm decides on, the page displays useful information that, at-a-glance, will show valuable data that will be informative when making settlement decisions, etc. The fact that all of the outstanding amounts from the individual pages mentioned are displayed on one screen is a great timesaver! In addition, the ability to filter by individual Page/Types and Sub-Types provides an extra level of flexibility.
