Microsoft SQL Express

Officially, SmartAdvocate doesn’t support Microsoft SQL Express, but with understanding of its limitations Microsoft SQL Express can be used by small firms (under 10 users) as a temporary solution.

Microsoft SQL Express, as a free product, has limitations that can cause performance issues as the number of transactions increases. For example, SQL Express 2019 is limited to a 10 GB database, can only use up to four cores of one physical processor, and most importantly, can only use 1 GB of RAM regardless of the installed memory available.

10 GB database limit has direct effect on number of cases, notes, tasks etc. that you can store in SmartAdvocate. And with big number of cases/transactions you can hit this limit even if you have small number of users.

Another limitation of Microsoft SQL Express is the lack of ability to create scheduled operations. As a result, you will be able to run SmartAdvocate reports manually, but you won’t be able to create email subscriptions to reports.

These limitations are not present in the full version of SQL available for purchase from Microsoft, as documented on the SQL Server Editions web page.
