About Retainer/Referral

The Retainer/Referral screen allows for the viewing and recording of retainer and referral information in the case.

To enter Retainer/Referral information:

  1. View previously entered Retainer information.

  2. Select ADD RETAINER. The Edit Retainer pop-up will appear

  3. View previously entered Fee Sharing Counsel.

  4. Add COUNSEL. The Edit Counsel pop-up will appear.

  5. View previously entered Referral information.

  6. Select ADD PAID ADVERTISING. The Edit Advertising pop-up will appear.

  7. Select ADD OTHER REFERRAL. The Edit Other Referral pop-up will appear.

  8. Select ADD REFERRING ATTORNEY. The Edit Referring Attorney pop-up will appear.

  9. View previously entered Refer Out/Sub Out information.

  10. SELECT REFER-OUT FIRM.

  11. Select ADD REFERRED OUT ATTORNEY. The Edit Referred Out pop-up will appear.

  12. Select ADD SUB OUT/DUAL REP ATTORNEY. The Edit Sub Out pop-up will appear.

  13. Select ADD WORKERS COMPENSATION ATTORNEY.

  14. Select ADD PRIOR ATTORNEY.

To edit any of the information, select the pencil icon (blue star).

ADD RETAINER

  1. Select ADD RETAINER.

  2. Select Plaintiff Name.

  3. Enter the Retainer #.

  4. Select the Retainer Sent date.

  5. Select the Retainer Received date.

  6. Select the Retainer Signed date.

  7. Select the Retainer Executed date.

  8. Select the Statement Sent date.

  9. Select the Statement Received date.

  10. Select the Closing Statement Sent date.

  11. Select the Closing Statement Received date.

  12. Enter the Closing Retainer #.

  13. Select the appropriate Retainer Fee radio button. Enter any additional information.

  14. Select the appropriate Alternative Fee information.

  15. Enter the Advance by Plaintiff amount. If applicable, place a checkmark in the Attorney Fee Agreement checkbox.

  16. Enter any applicable Comments.

  17. To add documents from your local computer, select the ATTACH button.

  18. To add documents from within SmartAdvocate, select the SELECT button.

  19. View the documents.

  20. Select SAVE to add Retainer information.

  21. Otherwise, select CANCEL to return to the previous screen.

ADD COUNSEL

  1. Select ADD COUNSEL.

  2. Select the Plaintiff Name.

  3. Select the Counsel Type.

  4. Select the Counsel Law Firm.

  5. Select the Counsel Attorney.

  6. Enter the Counsel File#.

  7. Enter the Counsel Fee information. Enter any additional information.

  8. Enter the Disbursement amount. Select whether the disbursement was Reimbursed.

  9. Enter any applicable Comments.

  10. Select SAVE to add Counsel information.

  11. Otherwise, select CANCEL to return to the previous screen.

ADD PAID ADVERTISING

  1. Select ADD PAID ADVERTISING.

  2. Select the Plaintiff Name.

  3. Select the Advertising Source.

  4. Select the Sub Type.

  5. Select the Advertising Date & Time.

  6. Enter any applicable Comments.

  7. Select SAVE to add Paid Advertising information.

  8. Otherwise, select CANCEL to return to the previous screen.

ADD OTHER REFERRAL

  1. Select ADD OTHER REFERRAL.

  2. Select the Plaintiff Name.

  3. Select the Other Referral Name.

  4. Select the Relationship to Firm.

  5. Select from Primary/Secondary.

  6. Select the Received Date.

  7. Enter any applicable Comments.

  8. Select SAVE to add Other Referral information.

  9. Otherwise, select CANCEL to return to the previous screen.

 

ADD REFERRING ATTORNEY

  1. Select ADD REFERRING ATTORNEY.

  2. Select the Plaintiff Name.

  3. Select the Referring Law Firm.

  4. Select the Referring Attorney.

  5. Enter the Referring File#.

  6. Enter the Fee Agreement Sent date.

  7. Enter the Fee Agreement Received date.

  8. Enter the Referral Fee information.

  9. Enter the Retainer #. Enter any additional information.

  10. Enter the Disbursement amount. Select whether the disbursement was Reimbursed.

  11. Enter any applicable Comments.

  12. Select SAVE to add Referring Attorney information.

  13. Otherwise, select CANCEL to return to the previous screen.

SELECT REFER-OUT FIRM

  1. Select REFER-OUT FIRM.

  2. Select Case State.

  3. Select the Law Firm.

  4. View the Law Firm Comments.

  5. Select Continue to add the Refer-Out Firm.

  6. Otherwise, select Cancel.

ADD REFERRED OUT ATTORNEY

  1. Select ADD REFERRED OUT ATTORNEY.

  2. Select from the Type radio buttons.

  3. Select the Plaintiff Name.

  4. Select the Refer Out Law Firm.

  5. Select the Refer Out Attorney.

  6. Select the Client Contact Date.

  7. Enter Their Case #.

  8. Select the Ref/Co-Counsel Out Date.

  9. Select the Acceptance Date.

  10. Select the Rejection Date.

  11. Select from Are they using our Retainer?

  12. Select the Retainer Date.

  13. Select the Fee Split Sent date.

  14. Select the Fee Split Received date.

  15. Select the Confirmation Letter Sent date.

  16. Select the Letter Received date.

  17. Enter the Referring File#.

  18. Select from Is Fee Paid?

  19. Select the Paid Date.

  20. Select from Percentage/Fraction and Amount. Enter any additional information.

  21. Enter any applicable Comments.

  22. Select SAVE to add Referred Out Attorney information.

  23. Otherwise, select CANCEL to return to the previous screen.

ADD WORKERS COMPENSATION ATTORNEY

  1. Select ADD WORKERS COMPENSATION ATTORNEY.

  2. Select Plaintiff Name.

  3. Select Workers Compensation Law Firm.

  4. Select Workers Compensation Attorney.

  5. Enter Their Case #.

  6. Select Referred Out Date.

  7. Select Client Contact Date.

  8. Select Acceptance Date.

  9. Select Rejection Date.

  10. Select from Are they using our Retainer?

  11. Select Retainer Date.

  12. Select Fee Split Sent date.

  13. Select Fee Split Received date.

  14. Select Confirmation Letter Sent date.

  15. Select Letter Received Date.

  16. Select from Is Fee Paid?

  17. Select Paid Date.

  18. Select from Percentage/Fraction and Amount radio buttons. Enter any additional information.

  19. Enter any applicable Comments.

  20. Select SAVE to add Workers Compensation Attorney information.

  21. Otherwise, select CANCEL to return to the previous screen.

ADD PRIOR ATTORNEY

  1. Select ADD PRIOR ATTORNEY.

  2. Select the Plaintiff Name.

  3. Select the Type.

  4. Select the Prior Law Firm.

  5. Select the Prior Attorney.

  6. Enter the Sub'd Date.

  7. Enter the Sub Out Method.

  8. Select the Disb. Paid date.

  9. Enter the Disb Amount.

  10. Select the Date File Received.

  11. Select from Staff Agreed.

  12. Select from Referral?

  13. Enter any applicable Comments.

  14. Enter the Prior Retainer#.

  15. Enter the File #.

  16. Select from Is Prior Attorney Entitled To Fee? radio buttons.

  17. Select SAVE to add Prior Attorney information.

  18. Otherwise, select CANCEL to return to the previous screen.
