Caption
The Caption page allows you to view and edit the case caption. This caption is used for document templates; the CA-CAPTIONÂ merge code inserts it into generated documents.
Note that the caption created on this page for simple and basic captions. Where multiple courts and/or dockets are involved in a case, a better option may be the Court Caption, which allows different captions to be created for each docket within each court.

Editing the Caption
To edit the case caption:
If you wish to have SmartAdvocate generate a basic caption automatically, click the Application Generated Caption checkbox in the upper-right corner of the page. This will replace the caption with a basic template that contains the names of the plaintiffs in all-caps, listed as "Plaintiff(s)," and the names of the defendants in all caps, listed as "Defendant(s)," with "against" separating the groups.
Note: It does not matter whether the checkbox is selected or deselected when clicked. Clicking it will always perform this action.
If you wish to edit the text of the caption manually, do so; the caption text forms the contents of an HTMLÂ input field. You can manually edit the caption even if the caption text was automatically generated. You can insert merge codes into the caption if desired, however the Caption page has no functionality to automatically choose and insert the merge codes. It will be necessary to manually type the merge codes, or copy and paste them from a template that already contains them.
Click the Save button to save the caption changes.
Note: If you manually created a caption, clicking on the checkbox will remove the caption you created and replace it with the application generated caption. If you saved the caption you created and have not saved the application created caption, you can recover the caption you created by using the back button on your browser. If you have saved the application generated caption, the caption you created cannot be recovered.
