Prior to the 2023 release of SmartAdvocate, there were no convenient ways to set a contact as the primary contact in a case unless that contact was one of the plaintiffs. A point of contact would need to be listed elsewhere (or in a “critical comment”, for example) where that information was not readily visible. In our recently released 2023 version, we have added this feature.

Here's How:

1 - From the main Summary Screen, go to the summary section under the Plaintiffs Tab.

2 - Click the Add Non-Party Contact Tab, then click the drop down for “Non-Party Contact.” This will display a window where you can search to see if the contact already exists. Most likely, you will need to add the new contact (If the contact is already in the database, search for and select that contact). Next, click the “Add New” button.

3 - Once the new contact is saved (or selected from an existing contact), the Non-Party Contact field will be populated with the name and address. Check the box for “Primary Contact” and then click the Save button.

4 - The Non-Party Primary Contact will now be listed under the “Plaintiff Related Non-Party Contacts” section.

FYI: The Non-Party Primary Contact will now also be displayed in the Plaintiffs Panel on the Case’s Main Summary Screen.
