Tip #216 - “Alert” For “Future” Incident Date, And How To Edit Incident Date

The “Incident Date” is one of the critical components SmartAdvocate uses to calculate the Statute of Limitations (SOL). If configured correctly in Case Type setup, the system will populate the appropriate SOL on the Critical Deadlines Page based on the Case Type, Jurisdiction, and Incident Date. Naturally, if the Incident Date is incorrect, so too will be the SOL or Critical Deadline. Entering an Incident Date as a date in the future will essentially make it appear that you have more time than you actually do to commence suit.

The Incident Date is entered in Case Wizard on the Incident/Injury Page.

The system will allow you to create a lead/case without entering an Incident Date[1]. It is important to note also that it will allow the entry of an Incident Date that is a date in the future. Here, however, you will receive a “warning” icon (yellow warning triangle) that will pop up to the right of the Incident Date field. When you mouse- over the icon you will see the text message “The date is in the future”.

  • Go to the Incident Page or the case’s Summary Screen.

  • Click the EDIT CASE button (right side of the Summary Page)
